Question about converting yrads of Mono To Braid

Does anyone have a conversion chart from Mono to Braid?

That is a tough question, Joe --

Manufacturers are notorious for exaggerating claims for marketing purposes --

Then there are line diameters to consider --

For me, there is a considerable expense with braid I will never get spooled down to -- so backing is in order.

For me, all things being equal (and things are variable), but -- every yard of mono -- translates to about 3.2 yards of braid.

Strength, brand, diameter, ratings -- are different, and enter in to the equation.

So I just figure 3:1 for a working number when doing spooling of line.  Close enough for me.

Shimano's Maxcuatro spectra is equivalent to the next smaller rated spectra too.  Their 65# is more like 50# standard spectra and 80# like 65#.  I have 80# Maxcuatro on my TranX that is rated for 270yds of 65# but I got 310 of 80# Maxcuatro.

I have 50# spectra on a lot of my reels and I always get about the same as if it were 12# mono so I think that's a good guideline.

It's going to vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. Also different products from the same manufacturer will vary as well. Some of the cheaper braids are rather thick and the expensive stuff can be really thin. The fused braids are almost always going to be much thicker. Different brands of mono can vary as well.

I think that comparing the line diameter of the two lines that you are looking at would be the closest estimate.

So? PowerPro is owned by Shimano. Most of my reels have Izor or PP spectra, a couple have Threadlock.
