The narrow spool has many advantages. A 114HNN would be the same size as a 349. It is easier to cast and, depending on gear ratio, can bring in a bunch of line on one crank. There is also less issue laying the line flat. I like them.

Yup.
Hi, my name is Lee and I have a fishing gear problem.

I have all of the answers, yup, no, maybe.

Finally getting around to this build. The donor reel is a mess. Its going to take a while to clean this up. ::)

All spic and span now.

I decided to go with an insert and the steel gears. SS Sleeve and double dog.

Delrin on the top and bottom.

Ready for action.

Ball-bearing, steel gear, side accessible drags?  That donor reel was well worth the work!

Yea,
Those gears cleaned up really nice.
That is why I decided to keep them.
They Look New.
It had the old 3 stack asbestos in it with a lot of oil on them. I say it wasn't pulling much drag.

It amazes me how long those things can be in there before someone finally gives up on it.
