Red post frame 114H plate screws

For you Penn historians; why the different type screws (phillips and slotted) on the side plates of the red post frame 114H models?  I don't see this on the maroon ones.

I've had a couple with same screws and pretty certain it was during a transition time when the 113H and 114H switched over to all phillips head screws.

.....of course that is just a logical guess on my behalf.
