I had this dilemma with a 6000c and only having 2 brake block.  Problem resolved by adding magnet handle side, 3 1x5mm magnet.  4 was too much and significantly reduced distance.

Here's another pix from cell, one has 2 stack and 1 by itself.  Originally put 2 stack opposite side.  I glue only the bottom so I can remove the one on top for adjustments.

Thanks for sharing mackereljoe, that looks like an easy way to mag an ABU without modifying the side plates.
