Aside from loss of freespool (I guess), what happens when bearings are damaged and/or fail on an Avet reel. Can this kind of damage cause the reel to seize up?

Yes, a failed bearing can lock up a reel.

Not to mention tear up bearing races and possible other internal damage from loose balls!

I have not failed.  I just found 10,000 ways that won't work.
