Friend picked this up a while back.  I thought I would share and get some feedback on the spool???

Andy, that is a very sweet and correct "first year" 1942 1/0. Cant tell you about the spool, other than some different metals were possibly used in plating, or it just got thinly plated to start with and the bronze is showing thru the plating.

Either way that is a "fairly" rare find. I hope you let your friend know to cherish that reel AND box. Both are very seldom seen in that condition.

There have been some larger Senators that have never had the arbor chrome plated . This looks like the same style.

Sweet  :o

That box is cherry too, and actually more difficult to aquire then the reel.

Lmk if he is ever interested in parting with the box.

Thanks for sharing.

Penn Chronology

The spool is German Silver, that is why it has that color. Probably not plated at all.

It may not be very productive,
but it's sure going to be interesting!

   Look at that chrome...not a scratch anywhere! I don't think I have any reels that clean...that's a gem! 8)
