reel bridles

 On a big game reel (penn 80 for instance ) why is a bridle placed UNDER the pole in front of the reel seat? It seems to me that to help support the reel (keep it from flexing forward) the bridle should be placed on top of the pole (in front of the reel) or better still UNDER the pole BEHIND the reel seat. thanks for any education on this matter.

Greg, when you are rigged with a harness to the top lugs you are pulling back on the reel & the forward lugs are pulling up on the rod.     Rudy

thank you Rudy. I never once thought of what the fisherman in a harness, was doing to the reel seat. Only the power the drag and fighting fish were placing on the system.
