Welcome. Dominick, San Mateo, California.
Leave the gun.  Take the cannolis.

There are two things I don't like about fishing.  Getting up early in the morning and boats.  The rest of it is fun.

Hi Don,

Thanks you for the welcome.

I fish primarily saltwater in two facets. One is "rock and surf", probably similar to what the guys call beach fishing in AUS, NZ and the States but more rugged because of our rough waters in South Africa. AUS has similar water to us so you will know exactly what I am taling about. The other facet is the FIPS recognised Surfcasting for which I represent my country in international competitions. Coincidentally, I have just recently returned from France after competing in the World Championships.

What reels do I have? At the top of my head I have the following brands:

- Shimano (fixed spool, conventional and lever drag)
- Daiwa (fixed spool, conventional and lever drag)
- Okuma (fixed spool, lever drag)
- Penn (fixed spool, conventional)
- Abu (conventional)
- Omoto (conventional competition distance casting)
- Avet (lever drag)
- Maxel (lever drag)

There are probably some more but I cant remember right because i have so many reels  ;D

I service some of my own reels, just the easier ones for now. I started quite recently because I was bored and I was seeing more and more horror stories from people that have been taken for a ride by "reel technicians". Prior to this I just sent my reels in to a friend. The more complicated and ones requiring specialised tools and magnetic oils from Daiwa and my big lever drags, I send to this same friend. I don't do any rod work. The same friend is my rod builder and does all my builds.

Hope I have answered you questions but let me know if you have any more.

Thanks,
Kes
