Too much grease could affect the dog catching the gear sleeve ratchet, especially heavy viscosity gease.

Forget about all the reasons why something may not work. You only need to find one good reason why it will.-Sal

Too much grease may be the problem but it well could be that you put the dog in upside down. It's very easy to do with Penn 6/0 reels. I know this from experience...

I like to keep my dogs free and a bit 'snappy' so I put a drop of light oil on each. It thins the grease and keeps them operating extra free.

The only issues I ever had with my Daiwa SLOH's was the dog hanging because of grease, so no longer get grease near there with any reel.

Same here. Just before sliding the bridge over to button it up I add a drop of oil.

Sounds like a common mistake. I recall I's puzzled lookin at my 6/0 dog the first time, but had onea Allen's tutorials, which pointed it out as a easy error to make. Easy to forget little diassembly details as ya begin the rebuild, yesterday a line roller ona spinner: 2 bearings, roller, 2 washers & screw, no schematic. Just had to keep rebuildin 'till I got the roller to work best, 'cause the tiny washers looked the same but one was double the thickness, and the placement in the assembly was way diffrent twinxt the 2.

Fishing tackle is an art form and all fish caught on the right tackle are"Gfish"!

It's the little things that will get you, I pulled a reel apart three times because the pinion would not drop back in place when the lever was thrown.....problem was I had the bridge screws switched and the yoke was hanging up on the fully threaded screws   :P....Bill
It may not be very productive,
but it's sure going to be interesting!

Gunrunner

I don't feel so bad now guys again thanx much

Leave the gun.  Take the cannolis.

There are two things I don't like about fishing.  Getting up early in the morning and boats.  The rest of it is fun.

Gunrunner
