I went out for a quick evening of trolling with a friend of mine.  We trolled high speed 9" jets out to the 500fa, and worked the edges of some small kine Aku piles w/no bites.  Ran into the 40fa, and switched to ballyhoo/Sea Witch combos.  We took a good hookup on the long rigger 30 minutes after sundown.  Landed a 40lb Shibi (Yellowfin Tuna) in 15mins.  Got the fish spiked, grilled &gutted, and iced.  Dropped him on the block 2hours after gaffing him.

My first tuna of the season is in the bag.

Nice way to spend the evening.

Yum yum. Nice one for dinner.

Thought about cutting it up, but I ended up selling it.

Turns out I only got $2.90/lb, should've cut it up for Sashimi..  oh well.

Picked up another nice little ono on a short evening run tonight.  Lost a good wahoo on an Islander down deep, and had 3 fish chop cut the baits.  Maybe give it another try tomorrow evening.

but it's sure going to be interesting!

14hours yesterday, not I knockdown.

Plenty of Aku out there though.

Sold the ono for $4/lb and covered my 3 day trip costs.

John,

Ono is one of only three fish that my wife will eat, and I have to bread it and deep fry it!  Anyway, I hope you feel that the $4/pound that you are getting from the block is enough for you.  I think I am paying about $27/pound for sushi grade Ono ('imported from Hawaii') at a Japanese market in Sacramento.
