Hey guys, I'm looking for your opinions on Corrosion Block as compared to CorrosionX or ReelX. I seem to recall reading somewhere that they are pretty similar products and one was even started by an ex-employee of the other.
I have plenty of this stuff at the house since I use it on my outboard engine and electronics. But will it serve the same purpose in my spool bearings as CorrosionX?

Corrosion Block blocks corrosion well, but is a bit heavier than Corrosion-X and thus not so good for bearings, and not heavy enough to serve as grease. It's good to paint on spools before line.

Following from AK's advice, Bryan made another great suggestion some time ago regarding spool protection:
Quote...you may want to polish the spool with pure carnuba wax. That stuff puts on a very hard coating to protect the surface. At least this is what I do.
Off topic, though.  ;)

thanks guys.  being an "east coaster", I actually prefer to pack the majority of my bearings with grease for full protection.  I am not too concerned with freespool and casting, since I'm mainly a bottom/trolling kinda guy.  So with that info in hand, it sounds like the Corrosion Block will work fine, but perhaps not give me the lengthy freespool times that ya'll are looking for.  I asked, though, because I'm redoing two TLD15's right now and I figured, "what the heck" why not open the spool bearings and lube 'em....just for poops and giggles, really.

If you're reconditioning your 15s, I'd thoroughly recommend the Carbontex and belleville upgrades Alan mentions here: http://alantani.com/index.php?topic=41.0
I also added a Kolekar handle: http://alantani.com/index.php?topic=155.0.
It's all worked great for me and given a much-loved 25-year-old reel a new lease on life...

Corrosion Block is a great product.  It comes down to availability.  It's similar to CorrosionX HD in consistency.
:D I talk with every part I send out and each reel I repair so that they perform at the top of their game. :D

i have seen it harden bad, the reel looked like it hadnt been serviced for years tho. i didnt like having to scrape it off. good stuff if you go thru your equipment more often then not.

Yup. Already on it. Alan sent me the bellevilles last week and I'm still waiting for the carbontex to arrive in the mail. I held off on the handle upgrade but I'm confident that I will do that too.
Has anyone tested the max drag of the 15 after these upgrades? Not strike drag, but max.
