What do you use to clean off the outside
of your finished reels for removing grease
and lube? I've heard of a mixture of water
and alcohol in a spray bottle.
Thanks for any suggestions.

With a Ultra Sonic cleaner I use Evap-o-Rust, or you can use 50% water50% Simple Green. I personally like Evap-o-Rust you don't have to cut it with water and you can use many times over.

If you mean after a full service to remove grease and fingerprints? — WD40 works great.

Light spray — then wipe it off with a micro-fiber cloth.

Takes off the grease and any oil — and gives it that "finished" odor!

It is about all I ever use WD-40 for.

Yes for cleaning the outside of reel after service.
I don't use or care for the smell of wd40. I just don't want
to introduce or mix another chemical in case it seeps in
to the protective blue grease.
Simple green could be an option if it won't harm color anodized frames and side plates.
The cut alcohol mix spray onto a towel and wipe frame
was a method I had seen in the past, but unsure of percentage of Alc/H2O?
Thanks for the suggestions.

It seems I misunderstood you question, Fred's answer to you was best.

Forget about all the reasons why something may not work. You only need to find one good reason why it will.

I'm with Gman, I can't stand the smell or feel of WD40. I try to have as little external grease as possible on my reels when I'm done. I'll then wipe them off with a nice clean rag, & alcohol if need be, and then give them a nice coat of Meguiars Ultimate Quik Wax. Simple, fast, makes them shine like a bald head  ;D and protects the finish at the same time.
Love those open face spinning reels! (Especially ABU & ABU/Zebco Cardinals)

I just wipe it down with a clean cloth.
:D I talk with every part I send out and each reel I repair so that they perform at the top of their game. :D
