pricing reel parts

Hello,

How do you guys price your reel parts?

I mostly deal with penn reels and buy my parts from a dealer and not through penn.

Would anyone have a recent copy of what penn charges for wholesale and suggested retail?

I usually just double the price i pay but just did a bail and it would come out to about 26 bucks, for a 704...

Any business needs that markup.  It is a fluid question in the real world of profitable operations and happy customers.  I think in his case of a one off quick turn item that is expensive for the reel a fixed $$ or smaller percentage may work okay.  It is what it is for the cost, and maybe call the customer, I've often found that call makes for a repeat, being respectful and putting the customer in charge as opposed to surprising him with a whopper bill.  Sometimes they're dicks that want everything for a dime, do yourself a favor and move them out to the competition.  Firing some customers is also a huge part of success    Parts pricing for anybody is only a few minutes away on the net these days. You're not there to fix reels, you're fixing reels to make a buck.

No one needs to gouge clients -- but realize that you are providing a service for folks that appreciate your expertise and experience.

As for parts -- 50% to 100% is a typical markup for most shops.

When a guy needs a little spring, or a screw -- and complains that the price is too high at say $5 -- they don't realize that you needed to inventory, invest, have orderly access to, and know where to find what they need.  You may have had that screw in stock for 20 years -- just so that they could call you for it at some unknown point in the future.  Along with being fair to the client -- you also need to be fair to yourself.

The value you place on yourself -- will be reflected by the solid and appreciative clients that become friends over the years.  Don't sell yourself short -- value your experience and the service you provide.

I always charge suggested retail prices -- which are posted on Mystic Parts. I occasionally charge less that retail when a customer needs a lot to get hs reel working. I never charge more that SRP.

The posted prices on Mystic are suggested retail. Some big customers get a small discount from Mystic.

Like all wholesalers, you will need to be a legitimate business to receive wholesale prices.
