Run 20-30 yards of existing line off of the spool to get an idea of hidden corrosion issues under the existing line and try to see if there is any other type of line under the outer layers.  Some of the older spectra seemed to hold salt more (maybe just in my head) and I had a few Trinidad spools corrode over the course of a year even though rinsed.
