How do I remove this

Schematic shows a retainer spring but I don't see one and I'm not trying to force anything as a first option. Trying to get at the bearing.

Just clips on/off mate, get a small driver under the thicker bit.

I've just regretted forcing things a lot more often than I've regretted asking someone who has done it before. But sometimes "pry it off" really is the correct answer

Until it isn't.  Absolutely nothing wrong with looking....asking.... before you leap.

Interesting the brass washer behind the bearing seems almost as if it's curved to be a spring. Is that how the spool knob actually affects an ultracast spool?prior to now i assumed it was by pushing the other side of the spool against the nylon gear that's replaced by the "speed bullet"

Personally, I think it's just a preload thing so you get a little bit of finesse in the cast control instead of just on/off.  Might stop that lateral movement of the spool without actually applying friction.
