Can anyone tell me if this frame will bolt up to the older 114H without a lot of work or changing spools? and will it add any strength? Thanks for any help PeteJ

yup, the new frame will work just fine.  usually there is not that much benefit, but the new frames are quite popular!!!

Thats a bummer that it doesn't add strength to the reel but thanks for the info.

bar frames really aren't that bad.  the graphite frames add some rigidity, but it's not like a properly assembled bar frame 6/0 is a ticking time bomb.

Good to know and thanks again:)

Penn made these frames for a couple years without brass screw inserts. Those frames were recalled because the self tapping screws inevitably worked out. If your frame has the brass inserts, you're good to go. I wouldn't use one of the older frames without brass screw inserts.

Thanks for that info ;) Honestly I thought it was an aluminum frame so I passed on it.

Penn did make aluminum half frames just like the graphite.

It's the 114H2 not to be confused with the china made series.

I used to buy them for tank rebuilds.
