Glad you got it fixed. So, yes, Daiwa's "corrosion resistant bearings" have that color. Unfortunately, what's more likely to do in the pinion bearing is the sideways pressure from high drag settings. It's a bad design but still used in the majority of LD reels.

Funny part is, I just lurked in these web forums for the last 10-15 years instead of actually joining them! Ya live and ya learn!
But yeah, I was taking apart, all of my reels as a kid, and always trying to swap parts around. I was quite surprised to find a lot of them actually fit lol!
Unfortunately, my old man was not pleasantly surprised and shut that down!
But after seeing the design on this particular reel, I think I'm going to get rid of it and get something else!
Still have a brand new Avet SX MC, that I bought to do double duty bottom fishing and surfcasting and really just don't care for lever drags at all!
