I took a chance on eBay and bought this un-badged Daiwa reel for $10 plus shipping.  The cosmetics are not great, but it cranks smoothly and all of the major functions work fine (drag, bail, anti reverse, etc.).

It does have the worm gear innards, and basically everything else like in Mo's post here: https://alantani.com/index.php?topic=31907.0

The primary reason I bought it is because it "looked" like an 8300 as best as I could tell from the eBay pics, except the black-colored rotor cup was something I had not seen before.

Is this an 8300 or some unappreciated sibling?

i think there's older 8X00 -- black-anodized spool
and later 8X00a -- polished AL spool

I think '2 Ball Bearings' indicates an 8300.

It looks like a 8300 that a previous owner painted the rotor black.
There was a 8300 with a black spool and an 8300A with silver aluminum spool.
Does your spool have drag adjustment numbers on top like a clock face?

Never mind, I can see the numbers when I enlarge the picture.
Looks like an 8300 to me, just with some extra black paint on the rotor.

Hmmm... Looking at my black rotor, it is possible that it was painted and not original black.  Hard to tell.  The spool is black aluminum and does indeed have the drag numbers on it.

Regardless, I'm pretty happy with being able to acquire this reel for only $10, when most of them seem to be selling at prices a lot higher than that. Hopefully, I can get this reel tuned up and fishing soon.
