Realized that I was getting too detailed, and therefore did not answer Steve's questions directly:

Quote from: Crab Pot on June 20, 2024, 12:56:42 AMSo you are saying they react on motion? If so doesn't mean certain color lures work better at depth?

Fish sense nearby motion or even stationary objects via water pressure waves on the lateral line.  This is how they often hone in on food and avoid banging into things in all light conditions, as they have eyes on the sides of their heads and don't see in front too well, especially up close.

To the extent that tuna can see stuff in very low light situations- whatever they see will be backlit, as available light is diffused (travelling in random directions)  as you go deeper. Black is probably going to stand out the most, but it should not really matter much.

I should note that I am not a biologist either.  I just am willing to read the scientific papers instead of the fishing magazines.  I can provide some references if folk are interested.  You just have to promise to read them if I go through the work of digging them up again.

I should apologize for getting all sciency and sidetracking PJ's topic on painting eddie bombs for fun of it.

I decided to start a seperate thread on the science end of tuna and jig colors:

SCIENTISTS REVEAL HOT COLORS FOR TUNA LURES!!!

Back on topic: My vote is still for the Deadpool color scheme on purely aesthetic grounds.
