I met a guy that was telling me his goto fly is a "Cat's Whisker"
he ties himself.I never have fly fished or tied a fly,I'm sure
It's another rabbit hole ::) Anywho, the guy said Bass go crazy over these lures,he has even caught striper with them.I was thinking
How trolling with one with a bobber/stop might entice the crappie
Into a frenzy?

Any recommendations for an over the counter "Cat's Whisker" fly?

Alan M

It is a streamer, commercially available.

In my experience, a fly will not entice crappie into a frenzy.

Do you use crappie jigs?

Gfish

The Cat's Whisker looks enticing. Hard to beat steamer tails and wings that "flutter" from the slightest movement. Some kinda weight in the head area always seems to improve this. Bead headed nymphs and streamers seem to be more effective, than the standard ties of days gone by...
Fishing tackle is an art form and all fish caught on the right tackle are"Gfish"!

How is a cat's whisker better than a buck's tail?  I've been looking for a good use of cats.

Steve the only good use for a cat is in fried rice,"What shall we do with a drunken sailor, early in the morning?" An old sailor coworker tolt me in Thailand once after bar hopping, he saw skinned monkeys hanging up in the market, flies & all. Cooked while you wait-fresh hibachi style, he said it was great !!! :d

Hello, I just sent you a PM about a bearing, and now I see your post asking about Cat's Whisker flies.  I can tie about any fly pattern you'd like.  Let me know what pattern, size, and colors and I'll send you a dozen.
I'm in Yuma until the end of March and my tying bench is in Alaska, but I'd be happy to tie some of these for you.  Or any other pattern.

Nine of the eleven voices in my head are telling me to go fishing today.
