Wondering if anyone has any drag mapping or profiling (whatever is the correct term) for a Makaira 30ii if strike is set around 12kg (26.5 Pounds).

Background to the question, I'm making a switch to the dark side, well what's considered here in Australia as the dark side, moving from the Shimano Tiagra 50wlrsa to a Makaira.

I was looking at the Mak 50ii, however when I was testing out the drag I found when the strike was set at 14kg (31 Pounds) then moving the lever down to 3 position was virtually free spool straight away. The ramp up and down is steep on this reel.

I believe the Mak 50ii with the TDC cam would solve my issues but concerned sunset might be a little low.

Considering if the MAK 30ii is a better fit where I can set the strike around 12kg (26.5 Pounds) and still have a good ramp up or down when adjusting the lever and potentially still getting close to 20kg (44.1 pounds) at sunset. But hoping someone has some mapping to confirm what I assume to be correct.

I believe the Mak50ii with TDC will only give me around 17.6 (38.9) pounds at sunset.

Only reason for going the Mak50ii was the extra capacity. To be honest in hand doesn't feel much bigger than a 30ii, just a little taller. Either one will feel so light obviously compared to a Tiagra 50wlrsa. However I think out of the box the drag profile of the 30ii might suit better.

Strike at 12kg / 26.5 pounds and sunset at 20kg / 44.1 pounds would be my perfect world.

Thanks in advance.

Hopefully someone has your answer.  If not Alan will know but he's out fishing.  Bill
It may not be very productive,
but it's sure going to be interesting!

Taller/narrower is better than shorter/wider! I have the Mak 15T, 16, 20, 50.
When I was your age Pluto was a planet!

Friend of the truth, swordfishing? I chose the Mk50 II Sea with CAM TDC. Amazing
