Hi All,

I have an old twin power that the handle knob plastic has worn off. I thought it would be easy to switch it out and replace but there doesn't seem to be a way to unscrew the knob. Has anyone had success with removing these?

I assume you've already tried a flathead screwdriver?

Haha, yep. Tried that. There is also a squared off section for a wrench at the base of the shaft holding the knob. I presumed locking the shaft with a wrench would have allowed the flat head to remove the brass piece. No luck, it just spins in place. I feel like it's all one piece somehow and I might need to just dremel off the white plastic knob to remove/drill/cut the part holding it to the spine.

You probably can't get a good bite with a regular flat blade screw driver. There's a special type of bit that has a notch in the center of the blade to clear the screw although the name escapes me. A hardware store like Ace would have it I'm sure. Make your own by grinding a notch in a screwdriver blade that fits the slot in the nut. Clamp the handle in a vice between two wooden blocks if necessary so you can get some torque on it.

I can't quite recall, but have a vague inclination these may also be reverse thread?

I've got good purchase on it with a flat head and wrench from below, everything spins with the same tension C/W and counter C/W so no luck with it being reverse thread either. The shimano guys here in Australia said it was essentially a single piece and the schematic suggests as much (just showing bearings) Still, I would have thought it would be easier to remove.

if it has a nut its not a single piece, probably just way too much red loctite glue. which make it pretty tough to release.

you can cut the white plastic knob and deal with just the nut but I think it would be also a hit or miss to find an aftermarket knob that fit the same shaft and nut, IMO your best bet is to drill out the knob with the shaft completely.

The bail nut on a Cardinal is similar, there are some bits in the Harbor freight security bit set that might work.

Got it. Bit of extra grip in the vice and a bit more knowhow :)

I was going to install something like a gomexus but most of them seem to screw into the shaft. That won't work in this case. I'm thinking about cutting off the plastic knob and pressing a silicone or cork replacement over the top.

Thanks guys.

Those gomexus knobs are held on by a screw. they don't much care if that screw is actually a nut that came with the reel.

But pressing on cork sounds cool too.

That makes a lot of sense. TY!

Ended up ordering a Gomexus but liked it better on the 3000 so the twin power gets the hand me down.

I'm still going to look into some cork or foam knobs for the 2500's but this will do just fine...until the plastic melts on the stella knob lol.

Thanks for the assistance/feedback all :)
