I saw this article and photos on the Mrs' FB account and I thought I'd share it.  Probably shouldn't post it to this Topic Channel, "Safety At Sea", but seemed somewhat appropriate for those on the West Coast.  ;)

Humpback whale jumping next to a fishing boat, breaching the waters of Monterey Bay in California.

- Nature is just amazing! It always makes us surprised with its massive creatures, hidden plants, smelly flowers, and many more things. Recently, a picture was captured at California waters on Monterey Bay which gave goosebumps for the viewers.

The picture showed a huge humpback whale shooting out of the water and it was just amazing! The bay is the home to many species of marine animals and most importantly, it is located in the migratory path of Gray and Humpback whales which make it a popular whale watching spot.

The pictures shows the way how the massive Humpback shot up through the waves close to a fisherman's boat named Baja Sueno. The photographer, Douglas Craft, who captured the picture told the media that "The whale is huge! If I'd been the fisherman, I'd probably need some new underwear".

He has taken pictures from the porthole of another boat at an upward angle, making the whale appear even larger. He says "I went below deck to shoot from a porthole close to the water line. That's what gives this amazing perspective of looking up at the whale".
The photographer also had the help from a whale watcher, Kate Cummings who could take a video of the whale jump in action.

He said to the media "It was fun capturing this video. The whale had already breached multiple times much further away from the fisherman. But sometimes when whales breach multiple times, they're also heading a specific direction when they're underwater building momentum for the next breach. I figured the next breach would be around the fisherman because the whale was heading that way and sure enough! Though I didn't expect the whale and the boat to line up so perfectly."

A humpy just breached and swamped a sportfishing boat off of New Hampshire too.  There is a video of the whole thing online.

Several years ago a couple unlucky fisherman off the central coast had a humpback breach and land on their boat. One was killed and the boat destroyed
That's an incredible photo, thanks for posting it

Man that's a big'un. The younger males "seem" to be the most dangerous(kinda like all mammals) Last season(winter) I saw 2-swimming past me(usually this means about 50-100' away) at high-speed towards the shore like they were in a chicken-fight. Don't suppose they were too concerned about anything around 'em.
Fishing tackle is an art form and all fish caught on the right tackle are"Gfish"!
