I am curious if anyone has used Tef-gel to lube carbon drag disc in freshwater bass size reels. I got some Tef-Gel and plan to try it on the next reel I do maint on of mine.

Just responded to that on your other thread:https://alantani.com/index.php/topic,36881.15.html

My guess would be not an ideal candidate compared to a real moving-part grease, but you never know.

Let us know what you find out if you try it.

Why would you want too? Tef-Gel is designed for galvanic corrosion prevention. It is also considerably more expensive than Cal's drag grease, which is designed for drags.

[note to moderator- should this be on the lubricants sub forum? Also the dartanium thread -maybe Shimno?]

Sounds like it is thicker than NLGI 2 grease like Cal's.  If you do use it, make sure that you wipe it down extra well, as you  might have trouble squeezing the excess out by tightening the drag.

Nothing particularly special about Cal's IMHO.  You just need a grease that doesn't oxidize easily, has a high dropping point temp, and (maybe) teflon additive.  The advantage of using Cal's is that lots of folk have been using it successfully for many years. No suprises.   But there are other choices- which can be found on the lubricant mega-thread -https://alantani.com/index.php/topic,50.0.html

In the end, what tends to matter most is how the grease holds up sitting around not being used and exposed to the air-because that is how most reels spend most of their time.  Assuming that Tef-Gel gets the basic drag lubricant job done, you will know in a couple years how it perfroms after sitting around.
