I've been searching for some 50# 8 strand and stumbled onto Daiwa J braid grand. It's made with all new IZANIS fiber, and they say it's leaps and bounds stronger than any other fiber material on the market. Soft supple and easy to spool(their description)

I grabbed a 3,000yd spool of island blue, and started off by spooling up a Cortez 99, that I plan on using for live bait albacore, and possibly for salmon, ling cod, and rockfish.

Just curious if anyone here has any feedback on this new style of braid

Ted,

I've had the 65lb on my grouper reels and it hasn't faded. I haven't thought about it too much but I've been pleased with it.

I like it on my Calcutta. It's thicker than other braid of the same nominal rating but they swear up and down it's way more abrasion resistant. I use my Calcutta in some pretty abrasive environments and so far so good.
Any machine is a smoke machine if you use it wrong enough.

I have one reel I use for SPJ with 20lb. A couple trips, so far so good

If it's anything like their other 8 carrier braids the actual breaking strain will be something ridiculous. Let me see if I can find it.

EDIT: The 0.35mm line is sold as 79lb in the UK....

it's been around for a while.  8-carrier solid braids are much smoother than the cheaper 4 carrier bargain basement braids.  alot more work goes into making an 8-carrier thread.  and 16-carrier hollow is even worse.

for me, the calculus for selecting a product is part breaking strength, part look and feel, part price, and part availability.  for the individual fisherman, i think it comes down to the fact that braid is just backing.  at the end of the day, it just has to not break!  i saw prices of around 10 cents per yard.  it's comparable to the jerry brown lines that i carry.  i'm sure it will work out fine!
