Steady rest, couple wraps electric tape and the hillbilly made it work. Enjoy yer Labor Day weekend .............it aint dumb if it works! My 1939 atlas I brought home in baskets. Rebuilt every nut, bolt and screw. Dandy for this kinda stuff.

Nothing really genius, just worked up the nuts to actually try chucking up a rod using the center rest to work down rod butts and grips to size I prefer. Been doing it all this time by hand. ;)

Interesting thing on this rod was ... its an older Mitchell I really like ... the rod butt is exactly what I have been doing using aluminum tubing. Under the foam of course. Pleasant surprise. From the reel seat back was aluminum tubing
