Quick update:
A good fellow in Aussie was able to supply a bunch of them to me. If anyone else in NZ wants some, just let me know as I've got quite the stash now.

Was able to get my 525 C52 up to at least 16kgs of drag. The hastily tied knot broke just as 16 flashed up on the scales. That's more than enough drag from a kayak.
