Have an Avet HX 5/2 MC 2 speed in the shop.  I did one about two years ago and no problem.  This one just won't go back together right.  I have it together per the schematic but I cannot get it to go into free spool. Anyone have any idea's?  I've taken it apart probably 8 times and put it back together and it still seems like it never releases into free spool

Thanks, Steve

normally, the spool shaft and bearing for the pressure plate are corroded. the pressure plate will not release.  gotta clean up the spool shaft and probably replace the bearing.  given that it's been apart so many times, i'm betting that's not the case.   :-\

Thanks Allen.  I'll re check that. The bearing you refer to is the one that is installed in the pressure plate right? No corrosion that I can find. I'll re check the bearing though.

I did not mess with the stack at all but did remove the shaft and clean it and lube the spool bearings.  But think I'll remove the shaft again and see if there is anything going on there.

I can get it to close but feel the drag resistance right away as soon as I do. Usually I can get a pop on the lever drags that tells me it's seated in correctly and I'll get free spool on the spool.  I get none of this, just resistance.

There was rust on the pressure plate and the drag was rust stained.  I cleaned it up and turned the drag over as it was one that was not glued in.

Well, found the problem out.  Took the spool shaft out and for some reason I suddenly realized there were no pressure washers on spool bearing and the spring as in the schematics.  Took the left side spool bearing out (this is a left hand reel) and under it for some reason I had put those pressure washers under that spool bearing.  Put the pressure washers back in the way they were supposed to be and it works just fine.  Went to sleep last night thinking about this reel and woke up thinking about this reel. Sure is nice to have it working fine and to know what the problem was "me"  LOL.

Good job, Steve. I never thought too much about the "sleep on it" method until I came here.
