Interesting.  I'm aware that mono stretches, but didn't consider it could put that much more compression.  Sounds like its all but guaranteed that the same will happen to my 85.

Quote from: Keta on October 14, 2024, 05:33:23 AMThe 29M-60 spool is common and I might have one in my shop but I am running behind and most likely will not have time to look this week and will be fishing 10/20-10/30. I will try to get to my shop and look, if not and you do not get one before 11/2 send me a PM to remind me to look.
Thanks, Lee, absolutely no hurry.

Note, I have also seen three piece metal spools, which you are quite likely to come by for that reel, get popped by mono. Not as a bad as plastic, but possible- I put dacron or braid backing on any of those things.

Keta

All of my reels have Daccron or Spectra mainline  on them but one that  is 3/4 full of braid for occasionally fishing the few charter boats that are still behind the time and ban braid. Most only have 30' or less top shots of mono/fluro.
Hi, my name is Lee and I have a fishing gear problem.

I have all of the answers, yup, no, maybe.

I could not find a 29M-60 spool but I found a 60 parts reel with a good spool.  It is on my bench now and I will send the reel to you when I get back from fishing.

New spool arrived today. Even got the existing line transferred (it was brand new)!
What is you guy's favorite knot for the spool post? New to that.
Thanks again!!

Tie the knot around the arbor whether it has a post or not. Tie the tag end to the spool post to guarantee no slipping. If you tie your main knot to the post you better pray you never get spooled by a big'n I've seen plenty of old spools with posts snapped off.

Hope you upgraded the old original drag stack. Your lb65 is from the 1940's. The lb65 only had plastic spool from late 1941-1947. The smooth sided counterbalance on your handle dates your reel to late 1941 thru early 1946

Yes, it had leather washers in it.  They were in good shape so I decided to "preserve" them and put fiber washer in for fishing.
Will this new spool hold up to mono (30#)? Having an issue with the metal spool on my Ocean City 112 that I think is mono related.

It will hold up better than the plastic spool, but still needs a good bit of dacron, maybe a 1/2", to act as a cushion.
It may not be very productive,
but it's sure going to be interesting!
