Does anyone know what the -6 means for a 454-6?  Bill
It may not be very productive,
but it's sure going to be interesting!

thorhammer

Imma guess Ted does, and I see he is looking at this now...

Thank you Mark.  I have one coming in the mail.  Guessing its about the same size as a 113H YTS.  Bill

Thank you Ted.  Do you think its a better 40# or 50# reel?  Thinking yoyo, dropper loop, and flyline.

It works well for 40-50#. What color is it?

It's a beast, and can handle 100# tuna all day every day

All internal parts are from Penn 113h...bridge,sleeve, gears, drag, yoke, jack, eccentric,. Also a PC 113h DD bridge drops right in

I got a gunmetal wide one from Ted. It is a tank. If I had the guts, I'd mag one of the two mid-width Squidder-size PG's I have but one is from Ted and one Alan gave me. They have jiggy gears and magged, would be pretty close to the perfect bullet proof for most of what I do.

Not exactly true. They are the same size but there are differences in the Bridge, sleeve and gears. Most parts will interchange; however aftermarket sleeves will tend to bind due to a difference in the way the base of the bridge shaft is ground. The easiest remedy is to use a 113H bridge if changing the sleeve. The gears are also 4:1 not 3.25:1.

With all due respect...I put steel sleeve on a stock 454 bridge, and no issues. I also never said the 454 had 3.25 gears. If you read my earlier post, I mentioned the 4/1 ratio gears in a 454. Please get your facts strait before tossing me under the bus....thanks

Not throwing anyone under a bus, just clarifying your statement that "All internal parts are from Penn 113h". I currently have around 20 of the Pro Gear's that use the 113H sized guts (440, 454, 545, 541, etc) and have rebuilt them all and had the same trouble with aftermarket sleeves on every one of them, I just thought I would mention it. You were lucky yours worked with no modification. I never claimed that you said that the 454 3.25 gears, just commenting on the 4:1 gears again. Lighten up, just trying to help.

Ted and DayOne - Part of what makes what we do special - Just like automotive, if a part "fits", well, maybe it fits.  I am NOT going to mention any of our fine aftermarket manufacturers - they ALL do a good job.  But with the countless 113H that I have modified, I have ran into my share of parts that just don't want to play nice in a particular reel, but are OK in others.  I think it all goes back to the tolerances (at least with the Penn's) that these reels were built in "back in the day".  I had a situation a couple of months ago with some aftermarket sleeves; one worked like a dream - one didn't.  The one that didn't was set aside and put in another reel - where it worked like a dream. Hven't gotten into a Pro Gear...yet!  Have been into a Lee Pro or two however, and needed to massage those 113H parts, both OEM and Aftermarket. Looking forward to seeing Bill's Pro Gear! - john
