Hi everyone, I've been working on a fin nor 4 for a while and can't figure it out. The drag is not engaging right and the reel binds when you try to reel. I've taken it apart numerous times and can not get it. It looks good on the inside except for the brass cam and side plate indents look worn. Any thought on how this can affect the reels performance? Maybe the reel is missing a shim?

Hi all. I have been working on a fin nor 4 for a while and can not get the drag to work right and the reel binds when you turn the handle. I have taken it apart and cleaned it and reassembled it numerous times . The inside looks good except the brass cam looks worn as do the depression holes it rests in. Any ideas how this can affect the reels performance?

Hi mate,
It could well be a spacing issue but, without knowing if all the parts are present, it's hard to know for sure.
This schematic is for a larger model (looks like yours might be the 12 and this is the 60), but still the same configuration.
If you haven't already done so, might be worth confirming everything's present and in the right place?

Hope that helps as a starting point at least.
Let us know how you get on.
Good luck, Justin

I don't know what I'm looking at, but just below the harness lug on the first photo is a hole that is not round and it appears to be deformed because the upper edge appears to be bent. It is the darker piece of metal. Maybe it's supposed to be that way.

You could be right there.
Here's a pic from another one, which was revived and revitalised by our dear departed Keith:

Murph's one does at least 'appear' a little out of round.

Thank you Justin.  I was worried about being both ignorant and crazy.

I posted some pics of the spacer and the tension spring and other photos of the interior.of when the reel is back together the handle turns but the spool won't. Crank the preset non all the way and eventually the spool will turn but the reel is binding and the drag doesn't work well. The harness lug (brass piece in Justin's photo) seems to be flat but the feet seem worn pretty bad and the holes in the side plate it rests in seem worn. Any further thoughts? I'm not sure what the spacers should be because the schematic doesn't match in terms of the spring. I've tried adding washers and other spacers but nothing is working boys. I need a pro!

This may help .   At 12 minutes - 16 minutes .     Than at 19 -22 minutes is were the mistakes takes place . He had to much free play with the adjusting nut .

Fast forward to 35 minutes he does tell you he had a problem and he had to go back it to make the course adjustment , because the fine adjuster ran out of adjustment .
I assume that the fine adjuster has endpoints  so you may have to back off that adjuster , so you have some adjustment to work with  also if that make sense .
