Hi
I just scored this on eBay
Do I clean it with dishwashing liquid or something heavier like sugar soap
Also needs a line bearing is eBay the easiest
Thanks
Greg

It's that spool lip I'd be worried about.
Any machine is a smoke machine if you use it wrong enough.

Don't know for sure about the FH. I had an FJ 8000 and have a FJ 3000. The line roller had an aluminum sleeve in it that I replaced twice(8000, used in saltwater) and then started disassembling after every trip to keep it from corroding. Maybe it was pot-metal? The bearing I replaced only once. Shimano may not have these parts anymore.
Fishing tackle is an art form and all fish caught on the right tackle are"Gfish"!

Hi Gfish
I have orded a new Stainless bearing from eBay (cheaper than Shimano )
I should have the reel next week and will give it a good clean and tidy up
I am hoping its not that bad of condition ,although well used

Looks nearly fit for the bin, if I'm honest. If the outside looks like that and the line roller bearing is stuffed then it will have other bad bearings (I virtually guarantee the pinion bearing will be bad) and the gears will probably be suspect as well.
If you sand the spool you will remove the protective coating and it will corrode furiously when used in salt water. It has significant corrosion on important areas like the end of the bail arm, and the line roller itself is corroded to the point it looks like it is interfering with the bail.
A line roller bearing and a scrub is not going to resurrect this reel.

The Stradic arrived
I have totally stripped it down to nothing and will clean and rebuild
It's missing the friction ring and has spent more time in the water than out
Bearings are still good
I will rebuild it and see how it goes
Im retired so it give me something to do in the shed 👌

Gregory

Slowly coming together
Depending on how much shed time I get 😁
Should have the body finished this week

For all that reel has been thru, that plastic idler gear seems to be doing just fine.

Edit: not an idler gear but you all know which one I mean.
Any machine is a smoke machine if you use it wrong enough.

I think Shimano call it an idler gear anyway.

There's visible damage to both the idler and the pinion. You seem to be doing a very thorough job of it but I still have major reservations about how salvageable the reel is.

Gregory

Thanks for the compliment it means a lot
I washed the unit in pieces in sugar soap and water then rinsed it then washed in dishwashing liquid then rinse and dry everything
Then start reconstruction
I won't show you the bail arm and line roller though I had to drill a small bolt out
( it's still in stock at shimano 👌)😱😁

Slow and steady as it goes

Part 1 The body is finally finished
I have regreased and sprayed inox inside
Fitted the tiny nuts that hold the back cover in place 😵💫 and refitted the anti reverse (brilliant when degreased and cleaned
The rubber rotor seals are not made anymore but will keep my eyes and ears open should I find one on flea bay
