Usually do one self guided trip to BC every year.  We decided to make it Rivers Inlet as we had never been there and had heard it was a destination fishery.

Drove up to Vancouver airport from Oregon.  Had a pleasant stay at a hotel there and took a small jet to Port Hardy.  Had a small layover in Port Hardy and then took a float plane to Rivers inlet.

We stayed at Black Gold lodge.  One of the least expensive lodges. We did not use a guide.  Fished 5 days.  The lodge is not the most fancy place but in everyway up to our expectations as we are more focused on the fishing then on having a fancy experience at the lodge. Rooms were good, spacious and clean.  Cook was fantastic.  Gear got the job done, boats were up to the area, although not really open ocean boats, but then we really wanted to fish the inlet not the ocean.

Started catching fish right away, mostly Coho as that is the season for them.  Ended up with our take home limits of two days worth of quota.  Biggest fish was a 32 lb chinook which brought a reward from the lodge of a Tyee hat and pictures.

I must say it was a real adventure for us.  Fishing was outstanding, people great and the weather cooperated every day. Saw a lot of wildlife and the scenery is beyond description.  We are going back this year.  We are thinking we may make this our yearly destination.

Going again this year.  We will be there August 18th for the beginning of the trip and August 22 coming back.  A pint would be great.  Layover scheduled for 3 hours.  Sometimes though on the fly in leg, weather prevents the Flight from Vancouver until later in the day so the layover gets cut down. But, the return flight usually has the full 3 hour layover.
