Good evening all!

Just a couple of questions, I recently purchased an 800B and while tearing it down I noticed a couple of things. First it had the slide bearings and not the ball bearings, no big deal. Second it had two, not one resistex brake disk under the main gear. Is this something that happened occasionally?

Also the schematic shows a few safety discs. I'm assuming these are all the spacer washers that I'm guessing are sacrificial washers for wear?

Think that's all I have now.

Thanks
Jeff

Hi Jeff —-

DQ 800B comes with ball bearings. So someone likely switched parts around with another reel because they wanted the "slide bearings" instead.  Or they didn't have the right parts.

Some anglers prefer the slide bearings since they are very smooth and less troublesome.

The "B" badging means ball bearings on each side.  A 700 & 800 has the solid slide bearings.  The narrow 600B has ball bearings.

The safety discs & safety washers protect the bearings & the spool shaft ends.  They do wear out eventually, just like in the Ambassadeurs.  Bearings, discs, slide bearings, and a few other parts are identical to Ambassadeurs, and will interchange.

Someone may have just put 800B sideplates on your reel.

Great, and overbuilt baitcasters.

During this period, DAM Quick hired a couple of chief engineers from ABU in Sweden to come aboard. Maybe that is why so many parts interchange.

As for the extra brake disc under the main gear.  That was probably just another case of someone thinking they could make it a little better, but it only needs (1) that is not worn down.

Best, Fred

Thanks Fred!

Kind of what I figured. I know some reel manufacturers add different amounts of spacers because of less stringent tolerances, but the brake disks are pretty thick compared to the thin spacer washers.

Thanks
