Hello from another newbie!

Hi all!

I'm completely new to fishing. Roughly a month ago I bought some used gear from someone in my neighborhood, and after some research was just tickled to find I'd scored a couple of D.A.M. reels in pretty great condition.

I've been lurking this forum since then, and thanks to all of your posts and comments over the years, I found schematics and info I needed to get them cleaned, lubed, and in working order. Thought it was about time to share a few pics.

The little guy is a Quick 1001. It was still usable, just the bail wouldn't close when turning the handle and I had to close it manually.  Its cleaned now and Fred was kind enough to put the brake ring I need in the mail. (Many thanks, Fred!)

The other reel is a Quick 330N. I thought it would need more work as the line lay was really bottom heavy and the anti-reverse did nothing.
Turns out the spool was just sitting high because a part had been assembled upside down, and the anti-reverse stop lever was just stuck in place with muck and grime!

Anyway, they're both smooth and happy now and I cannot wait to get them out on the water. I've also caught the repair bug and have my eye out for more old reels to fix.

Are you fishing off the bank? pier? boat? what body of water and species?

I'm still learning my area (California Delta). So far I've been fishing at night off a bank on the side of the road, and a couple times off a local pier. Both of those spots were along the San Joaquin River.

I also live about 15 & 20 minutes away from two reservoirs that allow boats. Those will be my next outings, probably after Mother's Day.

As for species, according the brochures we have channel catfish, bass, rainbow trout, crappie, and carp, but the only thing I've caught was a little bluegill off the pier.

This summer we've got a vacation planned in Tahoe, so I'm really looking forward to fishing there!

I am a spoonplugger and I study the lake/river contour map before heading out to a water body to fish.

look up dropper/ned rigs,

I jig varied depth with dropper rig, just switch out to a heavier weight.

Swing by the local bait/tackle store and they can fill you in on the correct color (joke) and rig.
