Recently on one of the weekend AT Zoom calls (everyone is invited BTW!) I made a mention and someone asked "What is X-Wrap?"  Since this forum is all about learning - I recently had my favorite offshore spinner and the grip was beginning to show wear and split.  X-Wrap (many different names from a variety of sources - any good rod building supply company will have it) is a good, durable way to cover/repair grips.  For want of a better word, it is basically textured shrink wrap that is highly durable, and available in many diameters (and colors for anyone that is looking to personalize their gear for when you are on the boat with 30 of your closest friends!)  It tends to shrink in diameter, not so much in length.  Great way to do upgrades or repair grips! - john

YUP. Especially if shrinking on a bare blank, I highly recco adhesive prior to shrink. I use a couple of lines up and down on all four quadrants of the blank of Gorilla clear. Heat shrink right on top and done.

A relatively cheap and easy way to refresh grips - I've done a couple of rod with it where they were starting to get a little shabby. Worth mentioning that the lengthwise shrinkage is not non-existent and it does pull back a small amount, so cut long

I have used it on 2 of my dock queens that have cork handles,the sun does a number on cork.Xwrap has a good feel &
Thin enough not to notice the difference.

Most of my long range rods that will most likely get braced on the rail have the X-Wrap or similar protection. Well worth it!  Bill
