Catching Nemo

Hi all.

I purchased spare cardinal parts a while back on eBay.

One of the parts is a rotor cup.

At first, I thought it was a rotor cup for the cream/green Cardinal 6.

But I see that the rotor cup color is slightly tan. Plus, the hole configuration for the bail stopper, and the inside configuration, are different. Looks closer to the configuration of a rotor cup for the smaller size Cardinal 4, not a Cardinal 6.

See pics of the rotor cup, next to a Cardinal 6 rotor cup. The two cups are the same size.

What do I have here?

Some of the very last ABU Cardinal 6, 7, 6X & 7X reels had a trip lever mechanism setup like the Cardinal 3s & 4s. It's most likely from that time frame. You can still find those trip lever parts if you look hard enough. It may be a repaint of one of those, but I doubt it, though.
Love those open face spinning reels! (Especially ABU & ABU/Zebco Cardinals)

The Zebco Cardinal 6X & 7X had a light tan rotor cup but I have never seen one of those with the metal trip lever like that. Everyone I have seen had the early style bail stopper, but I surely haven't seen every variation that was ever produced.

If you check out some of the black & tan ABU Cardinal 6 & 7s and bronze & tan 6X & 7Xs you'll see the type bail trip setup I discussed. I have no idea exactly how that tan rotor you have fits in, though.
