I have a Daiwa Lexa 500 HD from a friend which was sent to me because the reel seemed to dont apply drag at all, you can tighten down the star to the max and still pull the line without any effort.
after few hours of checking and open-close the reel and long story short, I found out the spool shaft "gave up" and got un-welded / "un-glued" from the spool body as you can check on the next video (sorry is in spanish) but you can cleary see how I connect the pinnion gear to the taps of the shaft just above the bearing and I can turn the shaft easily while the whole spool is not moving, at the end of the video I move the spool (turns) while holding steady the pinion gear which it was still connected to the spool shaft tabs, just like if a fish was taking line and the reel was applying drag but since the spool shaft and the spool body are DISCONNECTED there is not stopping force at all

I dont know what caused this, if its a lemon or if the owner was trying to stop a tuna with the reel and the reel gave up.

Yep, it's goosed. It's a stainless steel shaft in an aluminium spool so the only way to join them is an interference press fit. Once you lose that fit, the spool shaft will rapidly "clearance" itself. Time for a new spool.

Probably a factory dud that was always destined to fail.

No spools available at Diawa USA at this moment and it wont be available until further notice.

for now its just a beautiful paper weight material

Can you move the spool shaft in/out at all? Maybe take out the crosspin and bearing and see if the spool shaft will push out, then you could try epoxy it back in, I guess?

Another fix is , can you drill and put in a roll pin ?

if the reel was mine and considering there is not spool replacement I would try that but the owner will return it to the tackle store (a big one in USA), he already spoke with them and they want to see the reel, seems like a very odd problem, considering its the answer from Daiwa to the shimano Tranx 500 this looks like a big red flag.
