That is an excellent video for a quick explanation of the very tough 900H Daiwa drag upgrade.

I guess this was just for illustration -- since the reel has no grease inside the casing on the gears, jack, yoke, etc..

Plus, that drag may seem OK on the bench -- but if that drag stack was greased with Cal's -- it would be even smoother when actually fishing large game.

Daiwa nailed the Sealine Series. Epic reels of the period. They were made very well.
I have many. ;)

the drag washers were apparently shipped from me, so they were already greased!   ;D

That explains it, Alan --

When Daiwa was the only manufacturer using greased drags 25 years ago -- the soft drags would be shipped greased in plastic bags.

I still have some of those -- and the grease is still soft and pliable after 2.5 decades.

Since switching to greased CF's on your recommendation -- that is the way to go -- and I have never looked back.

Thanks!

Great reels.  I bought two with rod braces that I upgraded with the 5 stack kit.   I will NEVER use them, lol.

I'll put them in the for sale section some day.

Had no idea the 900 came with the full assembled dog and clutch.
I'm guessing this is the same size as the Penn 9/0?.

A 5 year old should be able to assemble that reel... very nice.

Forget about all the reasons why something may not work. You only need to find one good reason why it will.

The 900H is a great solid reel. Not the smoothest gears in the world, but solid.

I own a 600H and a 900H that the Boss was very kind to purchase on my behalf and then send it over to me after an AT service and some upgrades (thank you Boss).

Loaded it with 600mts of #130 JB hollow core (thank you Lee Putman) and top of 100mts of #80 mono.

Reliable and made to last

Don't forget the Cortez Conversions SS gear shaft!  My 600h's with the drag upgrade to 5 stack, Kolekar handle and SS shaft are awesome.

I'm going to try and find a big Thresher shark someday.

I did the Cortez SS gear and Alan's drag stack on my 900H, is sick at 38# of SICKLY smooth drag at FULL SPOOL. BTW a full spool is 900yds of 0.55mm braid spooled on at about 10# tension all the way down.
