What is the advantage/disadvantages of going to a bail less on a 700 spinner? The operation of manually placing the line on the stud seems to be labor intensive. Is this to prevent the bail wire from closing prematurely on the cast. Would save a plug or two. Any comments?

That is the exact reason surf fisherman started to take the bails off....to stop from premature closing and snapping off a custom built lure.
A Penn 706 (Green) or 706Z(Black/Gold) are highly sought after reels and can command high prices on fleabay.

Once you get the hang of grabbing the line with your index finger and lifting it slightly while you start reeling...it becomes second nature.

Thanks marlinmate, that's what I thought was the deal with the no bail. I might go ahead and get a new build reel.

Check out Zeebas reels.....sweet reels...some with no bails...made pretty exclusively for surf fisherman.
