Cheers, I'll open mine up and see what state it's in. Where's the nearest place to you to chase kingies?
Wanganui, but haven't targeted them out there yet just concentrated on snapper & gurnard. My mate aboard my boat in 11m estimated 22lb

Hi

Will do, emailed the seller & he is going to follow it up with NZ post tomorrow. I was in Eades Sports in Wanganui last week. They are having a closing down sale & I picked up a cross slide gear labelled 9500SS & also a new old drag knob which is a bigger diameter than the 8500SS so I presume its for a 9500SS. Let me know if they're of any use to you & I will send them down.

No Mark, the larger diameter is for the 750/7500ss. The 9500ss uses the same knob as the 650/6500ss.
I recommend the later knobs, the older ones will usually crack under stress. Also, the later ones come with a washer to keep sand and water out of the drags.

Hi Sal,

Not sure about that, here is picture of it compared to my 7500SS spool. It measures 10 thou under 2.1/4. Any idea's what it fits?

Mark, what you have there is a drag knob from the Penn 105C (silver), if you try to screw it on, it won't work.
If you flip the others over and measure the  part that sits on the drags, you will notice that the 650/6500 and 9500ss  OD is 1mm smaller than the 750/7500 & 850/8500ss. The wall thickess is also 1mm thinner.
The 747ss & 757ss should also take the 52N-750N knob
Here are the ones I recommend:

Btw, I'm not crazy about the silver 105's, but the 105C earlier models are a little better.....still, I'll take my ss models ;)

Hi Sal,
Thanks I have one of the new knobs on order for the red baron along with some internal parts & bail upgrade for braid. Hopefully they might arrive today.

I'd never heard of that model before, I guess it wasn't a big seller in New Zealand . I'm happy with my 8500 and 9500ss though, is anyone doing ss dogs and ratchet for the 8500 ?

Alto Mare

The 8500 is a 7500 with a little more line capacity. The rotor and spool are a little wider, everything else is the same.

Good to know, are there ss upgrades for them?

I just sold a 6500 on trademe, I thought having 2 8500s a 850 ss and a 9500 ss as well was a bit excessive.

Thats only part of the spin reels, then you've got the overheads as well.Fortunately she's pretty tolerant.
The 6500 was a deceased estate, not a mark on it. I thought it was probably more suited to a collector and if I want one to get one that had been used.

Any sign of your parts? I'm about to put in an order and am going to add that kit for running braid on the 8500 you told me about.

Not yet, now my 850SS has arrived would be keen on that part to convert handle to L/H side. You might want to check out this Ozzie site for parts too. http://www.anglerscentral.com.au/find-buy-spare-parts/penn-spare-parts-reel-schematics/spinning-reels.html

I have the part, check on scotts and see if you need it to convert to left hand wind. If you do pm me your address and I'll post it toyou.

If the threads on both sides of the main gear, where the handle screw in, go all the way to the outside. You need a new pivot to change from right to left hand retrieve. On the newer style gears the threads stop about a 1/4 inches from the end. That handle will screw in either side. It's a good idea to buy a pivot screw too. I've broken several trying to get them out. Bob
