Reel Repair by Alan Tani

The pinion was not disengaging from the pinion bearing and locking up the bearing.  However, the customer decided he did not want that twitch feature and doesn't use it so I took out the gear that drives it and all is well.  Thanks for the info

Have a reel in the shop that needs a clutch handle.  A Daiwa Saltist BG 40H   Key 44, Part number E60-5301.  Discontinued by Daiwa and none of the parts suppliers I know have it.  Wondering if anyone might have one they want to sell.

You have to be extremely careful to support the sideplate properly while punching it out. I use a socket with an ID slightly larger than the OD of the bearing, then drill a hole into a block of wood slightly larger than the OD of the socket to recess it until the whole sideplate is barely touching the wood and the immediate material around the bearing is directly supported by the face of the socket.

The baitrunner "cam" (#13244 on the schematic) and the body opening it goes through get slightly corroded over time (there's no seal on them) and can make it stick. Take the reel completely apart (slightly awful, I know) and lightly sand the ends of the cam and the body.

I called NMFS at 930AM today and they told me..."Stand by for update"....Clearly the allotment has been attained. Is that closed as of immediately, or some other time like 12PM tonight??

Side note, I was surprised to find-out the slow growth rate of Rockfish species and the age range of mature ones. For example: Black Rockfish up to 50yrs old and reach sexual maturity at 6-8 yrs. Old.
