I can't get the dang handle side e-clip back in place no matter what i try. It should have told me to prepare for a war with how hard it was to remove. Is there some trick I'm missing? I spent 2 hours on just fighting with the clip last night, it's time to ask for help.

I use Jewelers screw drivers. I had this problem 2 weeks ago. Someone put a too small clip in a Newell 220 & I had to fight with it toget it out. I put the proper size 1 back in. I returned the reel today.

I have not failed.  I just found 10,000 ways that won't work.

Wrong clip size was the first thing i considered. So I bought 2 new clips from accurate. Turns out that is the right one. I was kinda hoping that was the easy solution.

Hi Jason,
I assume you're referring to the spool shaft retainer?
If so, remove the frame and give the spool shaft a little push from the other side.
It'll pop up above the edge of the tension cam and you can then just push the e-clip on easy as...
Same goes for removing it.
All the best, Justin

a picture is worth a thousand words

amigo, why dont you post a picture of the E-clip and where is supposed to be located ?

if the the one that Justin is referring, well thats the solution, you have to push the shaft on the other side of the spool to lift the tip or the other end of the shaft where it meets the CAM

I have found that on some accurate reels is easier than other accurate models, so you might have one of those difficult ones.

Party foul on my part not posting a pic.
I took the clip off the far side, no difference. Kept pushing, no indication that pushing harder would do anything. But i figured what the heck it's a really thick spool shaft i can at least try. After putting more force on it than I'm comfortable with, something moved, and now it'll stick up high enough, and i got the clip on. So the shaft was getting hung up on something. This bugs me. So now I'm gonna have to take it apart again and see what is happening inside the spool/drag assembly.

Oh and one of the holes for the remarkably tiny body screws is stripped. And with how shallow that super tiny screw was I'm both unsurprised that it stripped, and surprised that screw ever held anything. So I'm gonna need to tap that for a larger screw or something. My inner brute wants to just grab a self tapping screw and call it a day. But there's a reason i don't listen to him very often.

This reel was included in all the cool stuff I got from Keith. It was in a bin partially disassembled, short one body screw. I thought it was because the screw was missing. Turns out it's a bigger issue.

lol, my first impressions as well the 1st time I had to open an Accurate reel, same applies to the tiny screws on the shimano Talica reels

Nice one.
There'll be a small burr or distortion somewhere on the spool shaft.
Run a flat jewelers file lightly around any steps on the spool shaft and it should sort it.
Rather than jumping straight to tapping a larger thread, perhaps try inserting a sliver of copper sheet into the hole.
I usually cut a tiny strip the width and length of the thread, then press it against the screw thread to shape it a little.
Then put it in the hole and start the screw carefully to catch the edge of the thread rather than pushing it down into the hole.
The copper will deform to match the thread.
Retapping a thread that small is extremely delicate work and requires an incredibly steady and experienced hand...
Let us know how you get on.
Good luck, Justin

so, Jason, did you ever finished to repair this nice reel?

I got the clip back in, only to discover that one of the frame screw holes is stripped. I'm probably gonna try my luck with a strip of copper or something. Kinda frustrating really.

I haven't attempted to address the stripped screw hole, other shiny objects have since caught my attention. I do intend to circle back to this soon. I might finally get to use some of these properly in a few weeks.

careful, it could become an addiction to go offshore.

I was a happy surfisherman for years until I was invited to go fish on a boat (panga) and now rarely touch my surf fishing gear  ::)  :P

Well i just found out half day party boats targeting grouper etc start around $150 locally. I can swing that occasionally. Previously i was only looking at charters, and not having many fishing friends locally it was looking waaaaayyyy out of reach. This is seeming more practical. And it's red snapper season here til end of July. I'm gonna go for it.
