Title: Grease or no grease
Post by: Tawakoni Terror on February 13, 2014, 04:20:58 PM
A learning question if you please. Not to restate the obvious that grease attracts dirt, grime and other bad things.  With all of the new high tech dry lube technologies available today that seem to have such outstanding technology ratings for load carrying capacity, hydrophobic capabilities (rust resistance), temperature range etc. Why would you not treat all your gears and bearing with dry lube and eliminate the inherent challenges with grease?

I think the primary reason, for me at least, is that I haven't found one that will stay in place when exposed to salt water. Most of my reels surf as much as I do.

bearings TSI yes..

however for drive and pinion gears... i find that grease makes cranking... smoother

For me, I think using grease helps with preventing saltwater intrusion by filling in the gaps.
