Post by: old 1946 on March 10, 2023, 06:14:23 PM
Hello
Aquired a Meisselbach TRIPART 580 in the box with instructions to take apart.
Reel is about 8.5 on 1 to 10 scale box is a good 9.
The reel needs a cleaning inside and out.
I have the reel apart cleaning the inside.
Now to the outside of the reel,do I just wipe it clean or make it nice and shiny new?
By the way I paid $50.00 for it in the box with instructions.

Up to you. If you wish to appreciate it for its antiquity, leaving it with its aged patina is fine. I tend to bring most of mine back to as close to new functioning, and looking, as possible.

A good thorough cleaning is good, actually optimal, but be careful not to over polish if you want to retain its collector value. Polishing or excessive buffing marks generally devalue collectible values.

It should keep the german silver look about it.
