Title: My Own Tank!
Post by: Shark Hunter on July 29, 2013, 05:24:06 AM
Sal's post has gone the way side, so I thought I'd show you guys my own. Following Sal's lead, as usual. I tried to leave a little more meat on the plate and shave the dog a bit. It still looks the same.
Special Thanks to Alan Tani for the great site, and the great deal on the Tank kit and Sleeve with dogs, Sal for his inspiration and ingenuity, Dawn from smooth Drag, Keta for being there, Bryan for being the utmost, Alan C. for making these Awesome! Gears, and Dominick, just for being Dominick! ::)

Beautiful reel. Love the new Tib frames without the inner ring needed. Thanks for posting.

Way to go buddy, ain't no stopping you now ;D.
Make sure everything is working as it should, free spool and all. It look like you took 3/16 of an inch from the reel by not installing the inner rings. You'll probably get away with it, but I would install them if I were you.
That kit is just as good as the later models from Tiburon, on that particular kit you will need the inner rings.
Good job on the grinding ;).

Sal, I didn't even notice that the frame was supposed to have the inner rings! SH, how did that spool fit up? I guess it's only the width of two inner rings that can be taken up or in this case let out by the left bearing? So why is the inner ring on this type frame even needed?

Very nice!  Do the dogs engage simultaneously?

That's the way to do it.  Nice work and thanks for sharing the passion.

Are the dogs latching in alternatively or simultaneously?

Hey Sharkey, draft another post and say "the last photo was just a test. I was waiting for the new rings to come in the mail."  I also noticed that you had Chapstick on the bench, do you use it to lubricate knots?  BTW nice job.  Dominick

The chapstick is just for my lips Dom.
The Dogs are engaging simultaneously.
Sal, I didn't even realize I needed the inner rings on this. I thought the spool was a little to the right. I backed off the right bearing some. I will put them on to get that bearing back in.
Still looking for a stainless arm for my P-60. I sent jigging world a message.
I wish fishing reel 079 had the same handle for the 114H. He says he has none. :'(

Hold up on the rings, I got just the ones you need. Let me know about that handle, do you want the 4 1/4" knob or 3 1/4"?
Silver or Black. Get back to me and I'll put one in the mail, You could send one back to me whenever you get it...no hurry.

Dominick, You don't need chapstick. Just walk out in the pasture and stick your finger in a fresh cow pie. Then rub it on your lips. It doesn't do anything for them, but it keeps you from licking them.  ;D Bob

And what a nice lil'ol bull minnow  ;)

@ Lee, you are having stainless handle arms for the 114H cut, like the OP has on his tank?
If so, I'd like one too please/thnku.

George, you only get one choice with the 113H, simultaneously.
If you needed to have them alternating, grinding the tip of one dog will do it.

Lee, I like the shape, but it's too plain. How about removing some material from the center as I'm showing

Lee, you are good at drawing, put a couple of drawings on paper, that would give us an idea of what looks best.
The one I showed you might be really nice, especially after shining it up a bit.

Lee, I was also thinking the same thing as Sal has just posted. WHen I received the arms for the 113h and the 112h/jigmaster I thought couldn't we just cut some holes or slots to dress this up.

I'm also thinking that maybe the jigmaster handle could be a little more meat to it. Maybe a little thicker through the handle area.

Just a thought.

Bob

When I picked them up I thought the same and changed the drawing.  I've tried to bend the thin ones, it can't be done on a reel but I'm not going to cut them any more.

When I get back from albacore/halibut fishing I'll draw up one like the one above.  I'm trying to stay inside as much as possible due to the smoke from the large fires in our area. 1/2 to 1 mile visibility.

Ok, here is the perfect example that you can't please everyone ;D. I like them as they are, I don't think making that area wider would make the handle look any better better.
These are stainless steel, there is no need to go any wider, they're plenty strong.
How long is that handle that I marked? If you make me one 4 1/2" for the 4/0, 5 1/2" for the 6/0 and 6 1/2" for the 10/0, I would buy them from you.
I would like to have the cut out as close as the one I'm showing and the handles to go up on width by 1/8, as you increase on length from the 4/0.
I will polish mine myself, you just need to cut them.
Title: Re: My Own Tank!
Post by: Shark Hunter on August 01, 2013, 08:03:05 PM
How do you go about polishing these. Some buffing compound and a dremel?
Title: Re: My Own Tank!
Post by: Alto Mare on August 01, 2013, 11:20:59 PM
Dremel might not do, I use a 6" bench grinder with a buffing wheel and some buffing compound.
I bring the bench grinder outdoors, it will make a mess in the garage. Not an easy job.
Alan mentioned that he might know someone to buff his handles, the price wasn't bad.

I tried my best to make those red rings work Sal, but it was no dice. They wouldn't sit flush on the inside.
The stand screws wouldn't take hold to compress them and I didn't want to strip the holes for those short screws. I just used the original ones. I'll hold on to them though, They might work on something else. I did a little more grinding on that second dog and it is a lot smoother now. Here are my two Tanks!
Title: Re: My Own Tank!
Post by: Alto Mare on August 04, 2013, 08:04:22 PM
Sorry they didn't work out Daron. After telling you that I was going to send some rings, I realized those were outer rings. I checked them on the plates and they fit nicely, but I never mounted them. Oh well, keep them as a souvenir ;D.
About that Wex, don't underestimate it. When I received mine, I noticed that the hub was smaller in diameter than the narrowed, I contacted a rep over Tiburon and he explained that the Wex spool was stronger than the narrow... different process. The wide frame is not topless, they also did that for a reason.
It might be fun to see that reel blow up...its only money ;). I'm sure if that happens, it would give you a thrill ;D

I don't know about the Thrill Part! I'm headed to The panhandle in Sept. to try my luck at catching some Sharks again. The WEX will be in the line up. I'm going to bolt it to a 100lb rated roller rod with Winthrop guides. I'm not sure how I'm going to spool it yet, but I will feel confident with a beast on the other end! thanks for the Handle Buddy! It feels really good in my Hand! ;)
