This is my T4N1 ready to fish. It's on a 400g spiral wrapped rod from John Volmer. Pinnacle Marine on The Hull Truth. Almost all my rods are from him. His trolling rods can't be beat.
The reel has all the normal goodies from Alan Chui, Tom, and Randy.
After I put it on the rod it was perfect. It's looks pretty nice to me.
Keith
Looks Sweeeet Keith! The whole combo of colors works great together!
..............Lou
Time to play tug-o-war with a big AJ to see how she does.
Looks great. Did you weigh it?
Scott
Looks great... time to get it bloody!
Basic form of whats needed. Little to go wrong. Simple sometimes states elegance to those who can appreciate it... Jeff
Thanks my friends,
It looks so much better in person. The black and silver rod matches the reel perfectly.
I did forget about Adams drag Insert. My other 113H is built the same way. The drag goes from 20lbs to too much quick. Well over 30lbs.
All I need is a better drag star.
Don't cringe but I put the drag washers from the Insert in almost dry. I've had to replace greased ones in 14/0 and 16/0 too soon. They were falling apart. These were customers reels. 2 of them. It's been almost a year and he is still catching sharks on a regular basis without any problems.
Keith
Nice.
Looks fantastic Keith, silver and black is just a classic color combo. 8)
Black and silver, you must be a Raiders fan... and that's just wrong. However, in this case it just works!
Looks great I still haven't taken mine out of the boxes. Waiting on parts.
Sweet build Kieth, and love the rod too. Looking forward to your successful fishing reports with the T4N1
Ted
Awesome build Keith
Looking forward to see Some great catchs reports
Sweet set up, Keith! I really like the combo as others have said. Nice choices. 8)

Sweet setup Keith. This little reel should be strong, smooth, and a pleasure to fish with.
John
Did you have any issue with your clicker switch being loose? Mine has some wobble and doesn't want to sit square.

Not at all. Did you have the nylon washer for under the click button?
Great work Keith. ;)
I bet it is nice to actually work on your own stuff for a change.
X10,,,,very nice set up,,,400g rod ;D
Thanks guys,
I had just enough time to put it together. The shop is getting loaded. Last spring i did 450 reels in 3 1/2 months. I had a friend come in and take them apart for me. Just the Senator reels.
This reel has the 10 tooth SS gear sleeve and one SS dog. That is enough and I know it wont break. Also a SS 4.1 gear set and drag insert. The drag is smooth as butter at 35lbs. I dought anyone will need that much drag.
Its just a tiny bit larger than the Avet HXJ and a bunch more drag capacity.
I cant wait to see what it will do. The season is coming quick.

Yes its there. When I engage the clicker the click spring puts force on it and kinda tilts up because it's got a little play in it.
You might want to play with the click spring. If they are off just a little everything is off.
Rounded edge on the clicker tongue faces up, some believe it would work better if it faces down. That is not the case.
Sal
Very nice Keith!

Wow, beautiful rig Keith!!!
Keith,
That is one good looking reel, I think that the silver plates are the way to go! I did a 113h narrow with all the goodies in electric blue and I had dings in the brand new Cortez plates after my first time out fishing with it!
That hurt!!! Oh well now I don't stress keeping it mint, just fish the crap out of it!
My future builds will be silver if parts are available to do so. I'm excited about Randy's extra Narrow 114h frames and spools that are coming. I messaged Tom and he hopes to have 6/0 plates on the market this year too! If all goes as I envision I will have a 114h that looks very similar to your T4N1. Thinking all silver though with the purple spool.
Keith: It's the bomb! 8)
Joe
Sweet reel Keith :)
That's just flat out inspring. Nice design buddy!
Great looking setup Keith!
You said 'almost dry' washers. Do you not put much on or just wipe them off real good?

I didnt use much Cals at all. I did grease the bottom drag washer but the rest are dry. Ive seen the ears of the keyed drag washers wear out too soon. This is on the larger Senator reels. From 9/0 up. The last 14/0 i did are completely dry and he hasn't been back. The first set off greased drags wore out quickly.
I've seen this on the tabs of drag washers with the springs beneath these tabs eating into the fiber washer. I have wondered if greasing them makes them soft contributing to early wear... Jeff
Thanks Keith,
I'm wondering if the drag grease might degrade the small ears cf washer? Great post.🐠
I'm mainly referring to the large Senator reels like the 9/0 to 16/0. Ive installed at least 30 of the drag inserts. 3 of the larger reels came back with a loss of drag. The ears had worn completely off and the washer was turning. They are not supposed to turn. I'm assuming the grease had softened them enough to wear out. Now they are put in dry with no come backs.
The other reels must not have been used enough.
I'm wondering if a hex gear insert might be the best? As a support er of this type butt an actual hex drag gear would be even better. Maybe some one might make a small production run of these. But an insert seems more likely for a store bought part. Nowadays everyone wants it in kit. ???
There's some money in it if you had the tools and time .🎣
In my opinion there isn't anything better out there than the versa drag system. These could be eared as Penn, Adam's, Alan C or Lee.
Doc's hex are also considered versa drag system even though they were hex shape, same principal to all mentioned above.
Doc made it possible for all of us to enjoy here.
I don't believe the design has flaws, this might be the case of difective carbon fiber material.
At times you might get a bad batch, just like anything else.
Just my opinion.

Which brings a question and or comment from me anyway. You mention two or three different drag configurations.
!: Are they available? And who has them in stock?} Brain?
2: Are these available in an size ie. Jigmaster, 3/0,4/0 } Brain?
You mention Dock. For us rookies. How do we get in-touch with him?
I forgot to mention, does the 3/0 and Jigmaster use the same drag system?
Joe

You're no rookie, you've been here long, you just need to look around a little more.
Most of the information you've requested is at the for sale section.
As for Doc, he doesn't have anything to do with selling parts, is name is Robert Janssen he's a machinist/ designer that has inspired us with the custom drag kits.
These will work on the 112H and Jigmaster:
http://alantani.com/index.php?topic=16690.msg174416#msg174416
These will also work on both with standard gears

Here are the 5:1 gear set from Prochallenger:

Adam at Motive Fabrications was supposed to come up with an insert for the Jigmaster as well, but i'm not sure if it is available yet.

Sal: Thank you for catching me up to speed ;) ;D.
How you doing with the snow? We are getting hammered, blizzard conditions now and guess it's 9-10" now.
Joe
My jigmaster kits are coming, as are more of the other sizes. Im out of the drag washer material, but will have more on the way next week.
