He wasnt that huge, but it was still fun. Finally got to test out the (mildly) hot rodded ss700 so that was nice. Still needs some refining but it's a fun reel to fish for sure!

The one I bought does not fit its at a minimum a different height. So I've decided to stick to stock internals on that one and designate it fresh water only whereas the 700 is also fit for salt (after all, i now have a spare gear set for it)
Oh and I'll have you know my good sir that not all bling is external. I replaced the plastic bushing at the bottom of the worm with a ceramic bearing. So with the handle included this is now a 6 bearing reel!

Went back out for another 20 minute run, got another slightly larger one on the SS600. That thing is so silky smooth its ridiculous. It makes me wanna build a custom rod it.

IMO, you're over-prepping for that HUGE monster ;D
both reels are overspooled: 7 - slightly & 6 - GROSSLY!!!
maybe, consider going down to skinnier braid, if your knots are good
didn't like 5# PP (3-carrier?), but 8# PP & 6# Suffix were fine (4-carrier?)
just feels better than 10# on tiny reels... even more so after "broken in"
you don't really stress a L/UL rod enough, intentionally, to break any decent 6-8# braid
