Title: Stradic 4000 FH drag washer care
Post by: Christopher M Songer on March 29, 2019, 06:14:37 PM
Got a Stradic 4000 FH to clean up. The felt washers are kinda dry. What is your favorite to use on these. Mostly Fresh water here in Ohio but once in a while someone brings me a few reels he only used in Salt. Thank you.

shimano has their own grease for drag washers. for spinning reels, these are DG01 and DG09. but the saltwater performance is really terrible. i do not recommend these for saltwater, but freshwater is ok.

to use saltwater, my prefer is superlube ptfe synthetic and cal's purple.

sincerely.

maybe I'm dated (or just plain wrong), but as I understand, the grease is for fiber washers

dry oiled felt just gets more oil...  if it's too dirty or crushed, it gets tossed & replaced

an upgrade to greased CF is a good idea, in either case

Not a salt guy at all. I have 3 spinning reels from this guy who only fishes them Salt water. 2 are Penns with the carbon fiber washers to Cal's it is. For the Shimano felt washers I have Reel X, Abu Garcia, and Lucas fishing reel oil. Any preference. I am leaning toward Reel X.

pure guesswork: I just went w/ most viscous, 'cause I figured it would stay in the felt longer -- Abu & Penn seemed to work OK...  one of the Pros can tell you more
