Title: 49 dog spring
Post by: FLNJBUM on August 30, 2022, 09:22:33 PM
Ok, so I may have "misplaced" the dog spring on the 49 I tore down. I ordered a new one but it's in the flat. Any pointers on where or how far to bend it?

Start with a 30* bend.  The more angle you have on the spring the less tension on the dog.  In a pinch I have used the stainless steel insert in an old windshield wiper blade.  You have to grind it pretty thin before using it though.  Bill

I would say 60/40 ratio to make the bend .  bend it just enough to push the dog into the ratchet .

I don't bend it until I install it, and then it bends perhaps 30 degrees.
